To set up an MPEG player for Linux:
- First, download the player: mtv
Follow the instructions to install it.
- Second, set up Netscape Navigator to use the player:
- In Navigator, choose "Edit", then "Preferences"
- In the left window, expand the index tree under "Navigator", then click on "applications"
- Scroll down the list in the left window until (in the description column) you find "MPEG Video"
- If the 2nd column ("handled by") says ANYTHING BUT "Prompt User," STOP. Another application is already installed.
- If the 2nd column ("handled by") says "Prompt User," configure it to use mtv:
To configure it, select the row with "MPEG Video," then click Edit
On the window that pops up, the proper information for each of the following lines is denoted in green:
Desc: MPEG Video
Type: video/mpeg
Suffixes: mpeg,mpg,mpe,mps,m1s
Application: {path}/mtv %s
(where {path} is this path where mtv and mtvp reside)
