Jimi Hendrix was someone from whom the tape deck was never much farther than the guitar, and according to some reports, he routinely wore his guitar even when while eating breakfast. Consequently, it is an understatement to say that there is a glut of Hendrix on the market. If you plan to own no more than three Hendrix albums, get Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland. If you plan to own more than three, you should seriously consider South Saturn Delta. Almost none of these tracks are available elsewhere. And while value of some of the selections may be questioned (e.g. the rough mix of All Along The Watchtower), it seems that every time the "Hendrix Family" ransacks the vaults they find a few precious gems. There's a long, tight, studio version of Here He Comes (Lover Man) from 1968, there's an elaborate demo for Angel form 1967 (!) and there's the highlight of the disc: a solo fingerpicked performance of Midnight Lightning from 1970 with previously unheard lyrics. Finally, there's the booklet, which is extremely informative even though it doesn't say why an instrumental with different chords and a different rhythm to the classic track on Axis: Bold As Love is called Little Wing.
