Abstract:The correlation problem of images with random contrast reversals, arising in registration of multi-sensor and multi-temporal imagery in such applications as missile guidance and map matching and differencing, is considered by a new approach to registration performance analysis. The method allows the choosing of both an appropriate processor configuration and optimal parameters, in order to maximize common performance measures. The mathematical model used in problem prediction both leads to the formal solution and gives insight into the physical relationships involved. Because of the complementary advantages of its elements, a hybrid optical/digital processor is considered for the hardware implementation of the system. Preliminary experimental results in support of the theoretical work are reported.
