Abstract
The Discrete Cosine Transform is widely used in image compression.
To better understand the visibility of DCT quantization errors and thereby
design better perceptual quantizers, we measured visibility of DCT
quantization noise as a function of display visual resolution in pixels/degree.
Visibilities are consistent with a model incorporating effects of block size
and spatial pooling.
